Flashback to January 2013: Ann Hollings asks friend Deb Kron to give her a lesson in pastry making. Ann has long enjoyed stories about Deb’s mom’s diner and how Deb used to make pastry for the 100 or so pies the diner served every week. So, one bleak weekend in the middle of winter is set aside for pastry and pie making at Deb’s house. Day 1 is pastry day, and Ann is guided carefully through the intricacies of making pastry, Grace-style, the pastry is wrapped up and refrigerated overnight. Day 2, Ann brings over a few litres of frozen homegrown raspberries, and together they each make 3 unbelievably yummy raspberry pies. While waiting for the pies to bake, they share a cup of tea and Deb wistfully comments that she has lots of her mom’s recipes and notes in bits and pieces between the pages of her mom’s tattered old cookbook, that she really should organize one day before they all fall apart and become unreadable. It’s only minutes away from “Hey, let’s put together a book!”.

After 5 years of thinking, talking, writing, cooking, tasting, re-cooking, photographing and managing to squeeze in everyday life and work, Deb and Ann are proud to introduce “Memories and Recipes from Grace’s Country Bar-B-Q Truck Stop”, truly a labour of love and one which they hope you enjoy using as much as they have enjoyed the journey to get it into print.
